Before Getting the Tattoo
What Should I Do Before I Get My Glow in the Dark Tattoo?
Before getting a glow in the dark or UV tattoo, remember all the different things to consider.
Make sure you know the difference between glow in the dark and UV tattoos and know which one you want. Consider where on your body that you'd like to get your tattoo, and discuss this with the artist. Make sure that the artist who will be doing your tattoo is aware of your decisions and will follow them exactly. Discuss the artist's previous history with UV or glow in the dark tattoos. Talk to previous patrons and look at their artwork as well. Ask them what their experience was like, whether or not they experienced any side effects, and what the artist's recommendation was to deal with those side effects.
Understand that the phosphorus used in glow in the dark ink is a carcinogen, and that tattoos are permanent. Once finished, they cost thousands of dollars to remove and could leave a scar behind. If you are concerned about your general health, discuss your decision with your physician. Also, UV tattoos are not all invisible under normal light. Some of them use special inks that cause them to glow or even change color under black light, so make sure you understand that what the end product looks like under a black light may be completely different that what you see in the mirror in the tattoo parlor.
Getting any tattoo is a life changing decision, and not one to be made lightly. Being properly informed about the different types of tattoos available to choose from will help you decide if, when, where, and how you'd like to get your first, or next, tattoo.
